Al Sharpton, Tom Daschle Discuss The Supreme Court's Obamacare Hearings (VIDEO)

Al Sharpton: Supreme Court Overturning Obamacare Would Be 'A Travesty'

As part of its ongoing series of chats with influential power players who breakfast at New York's Loews Regency Hotel, The Huffington Post scored interviews on Wednesday with Rev. Al Sharpton and former U.S. Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle, capturing their views on the Supreme Court's Obamacare hearings thus far.

"It would be a travesty if [the Supreme Court] ruled that it was unconstitutional for [the] government to guarantee people health care," Sharpton said. When asked whether he thinks the Affordable Care Act could be overturned, Sharpton replied, "You never know which way the courts are gonna go."

"Time will tell, but I don't think the American people can afford for the Supreme Court" to rule the law unconstitutional, Sharpton said.

The MSNBC host also briefly discussed his coverage of the Travyon Martin case. "I'm going to keep not only discussing it on my show, but I'm going to remain doing what the family has asked us to do and that's rally for justice."

Daschle had some thoughts of his own on the fate of Obamacare. "I'm still optimistic," he said. "At the end of the day, the justices are going to realize that two and a half trillion dollars in this economy does require some federal regulation, does require a recognition that everybody has to participate. That's what the mandate's about. This is going to be a mandate one way or the other, either an individual mandate or a community mandate."
