Alan Grayson 2012: Former Congressman Announces He's Running Again

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Former U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson who made a name for himself during his two years in Congress with a fiery floor speech attacking the Republican health care plan says he's running again.

The Orlando, Fla., Democrat said of the plan in 2009: "If you get sick, America, the Republican health care plan is this: Die quickly."

He says he filed paperwork with the state Monday to make another run for the U.S. House in 2012. After his single term, he was defeated in 2010 by Republican Dan Webster.

Grayson also ran a campaign ad referring to Webster as "Taliban Dan," comparing Webster's religious fundamentalist views to those in the Middle East.

Grayson joins a growing list of defeated former members from last cycle who are hoping 2012 could be a more favorable year for a comeback. Bill Foster, D-Ill., Ann Kirkpatrick, D-Ariz., Ciro Rodriguez, D-Texas, and Carol Shea-Porter, D-N.H., have already filed for another run, while several others are still considering rematches.

"We need someone who's going to stick up for what's right," Grayson told local Florida station WFTV. "Somebody with guts."
