Alec Baldwin Slams 'Rock Of Ages'

Critics and audiences weren't the only ones who thought "Rock of Ages" was a bad movie. According to TheWrap, "Rock of Ages" co-star Alec Baldwin called the musical "horrible" during an interview with New Yorker editor David Remnick at the American Magazine Media Conference in New York on Tuesday night.

“It was a complete disaster,” Baldwin said. “A week in you go, 'Oh God, what have I done?'"

Baldwin, who played long-haired club owner Dennis in the adaptation of the hit Broadway musical, isn't necessarily exaggerating with his recollection of instantaneous regret. Back in May of 2011, THR reported that Baldwin had dropped out of the film, just two weeks before filming was to begin. A corresponding report from Deadline.com's Nikki Finke put out that fire, noting that Baldwin was still onboard despite asking "Rock of Ages" studio New Line Cinema to replace him in the role. (The Deadline.com piece quotes New Line Cinema studio head Toby Emmerich as saying that Baldwin had a medical issue that was forcing the star's hand.)

As TheWrap reports, Baldwin only agreed to star in "Rock of Ages" because he was interested in working with director Adam Shankman and his main scene partners, Tom Cruise and Russell Brand. To that end, things worked out: his scenes with Brand, specifically their duet of "I Can't Fight This Feeling," remain the "Rock of Ages" high point.
