Police Kill Woman In Gunfight Inside Atlanta Cop Car

Atlanta police said officers fatally shot a woman who may have been handcuffed in the back of a police car after she somehow pulled a pistol and fired at them twice Thursday evening.

Alexa Christian, a 25-year-old mother of two, died at a hospital after the gunfight.

Christian was placed in the back of the police cruiser after two police officers claimed they found her inside of a car that had been reported stolen, according to WSB-TV. The officers reportedly frisked her and found drugs, but not a weapon.

The woman, possibly handcuffed, somehow got her hands on a pistol and fired at at least twice, The Associated Press reported.

The officers were uninjured and shot back, leaving Christian mortally wounded, TV station WXIA reported.

TV video showed a bullet hole in the police car rear window.

County jail records showed Christian had a record of multiple arrests. Among her eight busts in Fulton County since 2006 were accusations of auto theft, selling marijuana and shoplifting, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

Police were investigating whether the officers had handcuffed Christian, and where she had hidden the gun used to fire at the officers, an Atlanta police official told AP. The officers have been placed on leave while the shooting is reviewed.

The two officers involved in the shooting, as well as Christian, were black, a department official noted.
