Good boy!
A South Carolina couple is thanking their dog for saving their 7-month-old from an abusive babysitter.
Benjamin and Hope Jordan, of Charleston, hired 22-year-old Alexis Khan to care for their son, Finn, last year.
"About five months into her being our babysitter," Benjamin Jordan told WCSC, "We started to notice that our dog was very protective of our son when she would come in the door. He was very aggressive towards her and a few times we actually had to physically restrain our dog from going towards her."
Suspecting that their pet might be on to something, the Jordans placed an iPhone under the couch to record what happened when Khan and their son were alone.
The recording revealed the babysitter swearing and slapping the infant as the child's cries changed "from a distress cry to a pain cry."
Khan pleaded guilty to assault and battery Monday and was sentenced to one to three years in prison. She will also never be allowed to work with children again.
The Jordans credit their dog with saving the boy -- and potentially other children -- from further abuse.
"Had our dog not alerted us to the trouble . . . it could have been Finn that was killed by the babysitter. You never know," Benjamin said.
Such heroism isn't out of character for a dog.
In June, Kabang, a Filipino dog that lost half of her face saving two girls from getting hit by a motorcycle, returned home after receiving medical treatment in the United States.
In August, a Chihuahua-poodle mix named "Psycho" jumped between a venomous rattlesnake and a little girl, saving the child from getting bitten. Psycho wounded up getting bitten in the eye, but is expected to fully recover.
