Alicia Keys Explains The 'Beautiful Value' In Raising A Blended Family

Following a star-studded turn out while raising $2.3 million through her annual Black Ball to assist people affected by HIV and AIDS in Africa and India, Alicia Keys is anticipating the birth of her second child with husband, Swizz Beatz in late December.

And in addition to the married couple’s soon-to-be family addition, the pair have also managed to successfully blend their family with Beatz's ex-wife, Mashonda Tifrere. Earlier this year, the trio were spotted vacationing with their kids Egypt and Kasseem at Nikki Beach in St. Barts, and partying alongside one another during Pharrell Williams’ SpongeBob SquarePants-themed birthday party in New York City.

The Grammy Award-winning songstress recently explained the importance of maintaining a blended family during Wednesday’s episode of “The Wendy Williams Show.”

“You know what I really think it is, it’s about the kids,” she explained to Williams while promoting her new children’s book, “Blue Moon: From The Journals of Mama Mae & LeeLee.”

“And so, when everybody is able to be an adult, which we all are able to be, and we’re able to recognize that actually there’s a beautiful value about the way that we can all influence each other’s lives and the lives of the kids so that they can really see that they can have more than one woman to look to and say, ‘what can I learn here? What can I learn there?’” she said.

“It’s really, really important and I think it’s so beautiful….it doesn’t always work, but it’s totally possible and it can work when everyone wants to do the right thing for the children and for each other.”
