Alicia Silverstone sparked a feeding frenzy of sorts a couple weeks back, when she posted a video of herself serving breakfast to her 11-month-old son, Bear Blu, in an unconventional way: by "pre-chewing" his food and sharing it with him mouth-to-mouth.
Despite the meal's delicious description ("miso soup, collards and radish steamed and drizzled with flax oil, cast iron mochi with nori wrapped outside, and some grated daikon"), the unhygienic-sounding practice likely killed the appetites of many readers of her website, The Kind Life, where the video appeared.
But RadarOnline reports that when the 35-year-old mom stopped by New York's Brooklyn Academy of Music to promote her upcoming movie "Vamps" this past weekend, she defended the controversial clip:
“I wasn’t saying this was anything somebody should do," said the "Clueless" star. "I wasn’t trying to be independent or cause such a ruckus. I’m very glad that I did it."
“People have been feeding their kids that way for thousands for years. It’s a weaning process,” she continued.
Silverstone isn't the only former teen star to raise eyebrows with her unusual parenting techniques. "Blossom" star Mayim Bialik recently revealed that she is a proponent of co-sleeping and chooses not to use diapers.
