Harassing, abusive debt collectors, like the ones HuffPost readers detailed last June, should consider themselves warned.
A jury has awarded a debt-ridden Texas man has $1.5 million after a debt collection agency left vulgar, racist voice messages left on his cell phone. In August 2007, collectors from Advanced Call Center Technologies left eight messages for Allen Jones, an African-American, to collect his credit card debts.
Jones sued the agency, and last Friday a Dallas County jury awarded him $50,000 in mental anguish and $1.5 million in punitive damages.
