Former Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.) said he doesn't think a Hillary Clinton presidency is "inevitable."
“Ignore the pundits who say a Hillary Clinton presidency is inevitable after Virginia voters elected a Democratic governor Tuesday evening,” West said in a Thursday email to supporters, according to Sunshine State News. “It's not inevitable. In fact, it's completely preventable."
West said Republicans could claim the presidency in 2016 "by focusing on the economy, creating jobs, and national security" ahead of the 2014 elections.
Clinton, former Secretary of State, is widely seen as a 2016 contender. Lawmakers from both sides of the aisle have said positive things about her potential presidential candidacy -- Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said Clinton "would be a very strong candidate" if she decides to run, and Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) has already endorsed her for president.
A super PAC called "Ready for Hillary" is already working to raise money and rally supporters for a potential Clinton presidential bid.
Clinton has not revealed any plans to run for president, but has not denied she may launch a 2016 campaign. In Sept. 2013, Clinton said she is both "pragmatic and realistic" about aiming for the nation's top office.
