Allison Williams In 'Fantastic Four'? New Report Suggests 'Girls' Star On List For Leading Role

'Girls' Star Could Land Big New Role

Allison Williams: From "Girls" to Invisible Girl?

At the end of a Tuesday post on Deadline.com about what's coming up for Williams, reporter Mike Fleming noted that the "Girls" star is being discussed as a possibility to star in Twentieth Century Fox's reboot of "Fantastic Four." If Williams lands the job, she'll be the first actor attached to the project.

"Fantastic Four" and "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer" were released by the studio, respectively, in 2005 and 2007; the films grossed almost $620 million worldwide, but were considered subpar outings by fans despite the box office. (Both have ratings lower than six on IMDb.) Buoyed by this era of more reality-based superhero films -- see: the "Iron Man" franchise, Christopher Nolan's Batman series and the upcoming "Man of Steel" -- Fox decided to reboot the lucrative brand with "Chronicle" director Josh Trank at the helm. "The Fantastic Four" -- apparently, in this case, the "The" is cleaner -- was written by Jeremy Slater and based on a story by Trank and "X-Men: First Class" and "Thor" screenwriter Zack Stentz. According to THR, "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" writer Seth Grahame-Smith was brought on to handle some rewrites earlier this year. The idea is that this film will take a more grounded approach.

"The Fantastic Four" first debuted in 1961. The Marvel superhero foursome is composed of Susan Storm (a.k.a. the aforementioned Invisible Girl), her husband Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic), her brother Johnny (The Human Torch) and Reed's friend, Ben Grimm (The Thing). In the original films, those roles were played, respectively, by Jessica Alba, Ioan Gruffudd, Chris Evans and Michael Chiklis. (Yes, Ioan Gruffudd was the the lead of a superhero movie just six years ago.)
