One of the biggest movie theater chains in the U.S. has a special offer for workers affected by the government shutdown.
On Tuesday, AMC Theaters announced a deal for veterans and federal employees to get a free small popcorn at any of its theaters. Whether or not you've been furloughed, the offer stands.
"Offer Valid: Until common sense returns, or we run out of popcorn, whichever happens first," the movie theater franchise's offer cheekily states. The company also tweeted late Tuesday night that the offer is actually valid until Oct. 10, and that it requires government employees and veterans to show ID proving their status.
The best part is, you don't even have to buy a movie ticket, The Wall Street Journal reports.
The deal was announced the same day the federal government shut down for the first time in 17 years.
AMC wasn't the only company to recognize the PR potential of such a stunt. On Tuesday we reported on a burger chain in Washington, D.C., that's offering free burgers for furloughed workers during the shutdown. After being told he would probably lose money, the chain's founder said he didn't care as long as he got to help out the civil servants who make up a large part of his customer base.
