Adding Australia to Eurovision last year was brilliant. They delivered a killer song and it expanded the contest in a way that did not detract from it being the European Song Contest.
However, adding Australia permanently would be the first step to it turning into the World Song Contest and that would then lose a lot of what makes Eurovision special. We don't want that.
There's a great solution to this quandary - each continent can send an entry each year. Australia must include New Zealand and the other Pacific Ocean countries. And there would then also be an entry each from Asia, Africa, North America, & South America (sorry Antarctica - you're excluded).
This would add 5 entries which is very manageable. At the same time it's a clear limit where you are not slowly adding country after country. And 5 leaves the European entries numerically dominating so it does not lose its European flavor.
Equally important, it will build interest world-wide in the contest. If the U.S. has to first compete with Canada & Mexico, and is then competing against the world, then you will see gigantic interest in the contest here in the U.S.
I would like to see the U.S. competing in the world's most popular song contest.
Would you like to see the world invited to participate? And what about having North America send Taylor Swift? What do you think? Let us know in the comments who you would send from America.
