American Airlines Food Gets Upgraded By Marcus Samuelsson, Richard Sandoval

American Airlines Food Gets Celebrity Chef Upgrade

Celebrity chefs have already conquered land and sea. But now they're going airborne. Tomorrow, October 1st, American Airlines will debut two new lines of food "developed" by the company's new celebrity chef partners, Marcus Samuelsson of New York's Red Rooster and Richard Sandoval of Pampano and others.

Samuelsson's dishes, which are being called the "New American Table" menu, after his cookbook, will be sold on domestic flights. They will apparently vary, but include a breakfast sandwich and a turkey-chutney sandwich. (The latter will cost $10.) We at HuffPost Food love Samuelsson, but aren't convinced this is the best showcase for his estimable talents. Mexican chef Sandoval's dishes, which are more elaborate, are going to be offered in first and business classes on international flights.

The jury's still out on how these dishes will taste -- but there's really nowhere to go but up when it comes to American in-flight dining, Florida chef Michelle Bernstein's menu for Delta aside. (Food on international airline flights and in airport terminals is another story.) If you're deciding which airline to fly based on the food being served, though, it's worth checking out American's offerings in the slideshow below. (All images are courtesy of American Airlines.)
