American Airlines Italy-Bound Flight Diverted By Smoke In Cockpit

An American Airlines passenger jet made an emergency landing Thursday in eastern Canada after the crew reported smoke in the cockpit, an airport spokeswoman said.

Emergency crews were placed on standby in Halifax, Nova Scotia, but American Airlines flight 199, heading to New York from Italy, landed there without incident and none of the 211 passengers and crew aboard was injured, spokeswoman Ashley Barnes said.
