The third season of “American Crime Story” will reportedly take inspiration from the 1997 murder of famed designer Gianni Versace at the hands of serial killer Andrew Cunanan, FX confirmed to The Huffington Post.
According to Deadline, the third 10-episode installment in Ryan Murphy’s anthology series will be titled “Versace/Cunanan: American Crime Story.” Adapted from the book Vulgar Favors by Maureen Orth, the series will reportedly document Cunanan’s killing spree that ended with Versace and the ensuing manhunt. Tom Robert Smith, who’s previously written for “London Spy,” will reportedly pen multiple episodes in the season.
The first installment of the series, “The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story,” premiered in February 2016 to immense critical acclaim, securing a total of 9 Emmy wins for the cast and crew.
The second season, which will reportedly air in early 2017, is set to tackle the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. According to Deadline, “Katrina” and “Versace/Cunanan” will be shot simultaneously due to the network’s overwhelmingly positive response to Smith’s pilot script.
