With all that is going on not only in America, but the world, it is hard not to question our Patriotism. The people and the politicians are divided. The regulations put upon us by our government seem to minimize our ability to be Patriots.

At the beginning of this summer, our non-profit organization, The Spirit of Liberty Foundation, along with TAPS (Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors) undertook a major campaign called the Crossing of America. Two (Spirit of Liberty) Jeeps drove from sea to sea, border to border, covering over 12,500 miles. The Jeeps drove through 44 states wrapped from bumper to bumper in a dramatic red, white and blue American Flag with an Eagle on the hood. A gorgeous reminder that 'We are American!'

The tour was a "Celebration of America" to honor America's real heroes, our Armed Forces, specifically our Wounded Warriors, Fallen Soldiers and their families. These two Jeeps left the deck of the U.S.S. Midway in San Diego harbor this past memorial day weekend and more than two months later arrived in New York City on the deck of the U.S.S. Intrepid to pay tribute to those that lost their lives on 9/11 and in the war on terror since. The closing ceremonies to the Crossing of America where the first major events to the somber 10th anniversary of 9/11 where families that lost loved ones gathered to pay tribute to America and those that have given so much to defend it.

Now, I would like to go back to the question, is Patriotism dead in America and share a few moments from our journey across this great country. What is important for you to note, is every city we stopped in (there where over 82 of them) all embraced the Spirit of Liberty Jeeps and their Crew with overwhelming support and Patriotism. From the homeless to the celebrities, governors and past presidents this historic journey to honor our Wounded Warriors and Fallen Soldier Families was supported by virtually all of America. With media coverage in essentially every market, the historic Crossing of America provided a forum for those Patriotic Americans to let their feelings and emotions be known for the entire world to see.

We encountered a homeless person while at the Nevada Capital who came up and only had 87 cents to his name, he said "I want you to have it to support our Armed Forces, it is all I have, but they give more every day then most give in a lifetime and I owe it to them." We tried to not except the donation, but he said, "Keep it, I want to do my part, I love America!"

At the same event, we had a Wounded Warrior and his family drive over 3 hours, just to be able to sit in one the of Spirit of Liberty Jeeps. When he saw the Jeeps sitting at the Nevada State Capital he immediately broke into tears thinking about his comrades that he lost and those that are still fighting over seas. He was the reason why we did this, he gave his body to support our great country, fighting for freedom and sadly many have given much more.

At the Texas state border, the Spirit of Liberty Jeeps were met by a motorcade of over 100 Freedom Riders, driving Harley Davidson motorcycles along with an entourage of State Troopers, Jeep Enthusiasts and Patriotic Americans which escorted our Jeeps all the way into Houston. It was an amazing site, as far as you could see into the vast Texas horizon you could feel the love that Americans have for our Country and our Military.

So, in response to this potent question, "Is Patriotism dead?" I think not. When we are surrounded by it we all come together. Perhaps we need a reminder from time to time. The Spirit of Liberty Jeeps are a wonderful reminder to all Americans. These two Jeeps have become Icons. The Americans that supported them have become heroes. The communities that have come together to honor our Wounded Warriors and Fallen Soldiers have been transformed forever. Bonds have been made and lives have been proudly changed.

After 105 days, over 12,500 miles through 44 states I can say that Patriotism is alive and when given the opportunity, we all overflow with Patriotism and dearly love the men and women that have and continue to serve this great country.
