Anderson Cooper: 'I Lie To My Mom All The Time'

Anderson Cooper may dodge rocket fire while reporting from war-torn areas in the Middle East, but the CNN anchor tries his best to calm his mother's nerves.

During an appearance on "The View," Cooper discussed the dangerous situation he experienced when he reported from Gaza last month. "Does your mother [Gloria Vanderbilt] just say, 'Stay home already?'" Walters wondered.

"Yeah, I lie to my mom all the time about this," Cooper admitted. Cooper said that while she has never prevented him from traveling to a dangerous area, he still sugarcoats stories for his mom. "I'll call her and be like 'Everything's fine. You know on TV it always looks worse than it really is.' I always just say, 'I'm staying at the hotel today,' [when] I'm not even in a hotel, but you know."

Cooper's mother becomes a topic of conversation often when he appears as a guest on other programs. When Cooper stopped by Jimmy Kimmel's late night talk show, he revealed that Vanderbilt asked her son to proofread the erotic novel and romance memoir she penned.
