Angelina Jolie Cancer Surgery: Actress To Have Another Procedure To Prevent Disease

Angelina Jolie To Have New Surgery To Prevent Cancer

Angelina Jolie has revealed she is to undergo further surgery to prevent cancer.

Last year, the 38-year-old actress had a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery after being told she had an 87 percent risk of breast cancer because she carries the BRCA1 gene.

And now, Jolie says she needs another operation.

"I was very fortunate to have great doctors and very, very fortunate to have a good recovery and have a project like Unbroken to have something to be really focused on, to be getting healthy for, and to be able to just get right back to work," she added.

The mother of six, who lost her mother to ovarian cancer and her aunt to breast cancer, previously detailed her experience in a New York Times op-ed titled "My Medical Choice."

“Once I knew that this was my reality, I decided to be proactive and to minimize the risk as much I could,” she wrote. “I made a decision to have a preventive double mastectomy. I started with the breasts, as my risk of breast cancer is higher than my risk of ovarian cancer, and the surgery is more complex.”
