Spirits company Angry Orchard announced earlier this week it's issuing a voluntary recall of its Crisp Apple Hard Cider. This will apply to the company's 12-packs and 6-packs, including both 24- and 12-ounce bottles.
The recall comes after some consumers reported bottles that burst or overflowed after opening. The company says that two batches of cider produced June 15 and June 29, 2015 showed signs of re-fermentation which "could result in increased carbonation levels," making the bottles burst. Sounds like a party foul in the making.
Here's how to figure out if you bought cider that's being recalled:
- You live in Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Ohio, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, and Wisconsin and recently bought Angry Orchard Crisp Apple Hard Cider.
- Check your cases or 12-packs for the codes "June 2016 1665C" followed by 4 digits of 0001 through 0700 under the "Freshness Matters" code.
- Check your cases or 12-packs for the codes "June 2016 1805C" followed by 4 digits between 0001 through 0545 under the "Freshness Matters" code
- Check your individual bottles for the codes within the ranges of C16650001 through C16650530 or C18050001 through C18050415

As of right now, there have been no reported injuries from the exploding bottles. But if you have any additional questions about your cider, the company urges consumers to contact Angry Orchard via angryorchard.com or by calling 1-800-362-7110.
