Major NFL Sponsor 'Disappointed And Increasingly Concerned' With The League

Anheuser-Busch, a major NFL sponsor, issued a statement on Tuesday expressing its disappointment with the league in the wake of several recent off-the-field controversies:

The league responded shortly after the statement was released.

"We understand. We are taking action and there will be much more to come," the NFL wrote, via Kevin Clark of the Wall Street Journal.

The Associated Press reported that sponsors Campbell Soup Co., Visa and McDonald's also voiced their concerns with the NFL.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and the NFL have come under increased scrutiny in particular for their handling of the Ray Rice domestic violence case. This week, the Minnesota Vikings have been criticized over the situation involving child abuse allegations against star running back Adrian Peterson.

Anheuser-Busch wasn't the first brand to put distance between its products and the league or the players. According to Jon Krawczynski of the Associated Press, Nike stores in Minnesota have pulled all Adrian Peterson merchandise. The Radisson hotel chain suspended its sponsorship of the Minnesota Vikings.

Nike also terminated its contract with Rice last week.
