Associated Press photographer and Pulitzer Prize-winner Anja Niedringhaus was killed while covering the upcoming presidential election in Afghanistan on Friday.

Niedringhaus caught some of the most stunning moments in history -- from 9/11 and the Iraq War to women's rights in Afghanistan and Olympic athletes. "Her attention to detail, composition and light come together to not only tell insightful stories but also to create works of art," the AP said in its obituary for Niedringhaus on Friday.

AP’s president and CEO Gary Pruitt described Niedringhaus as "spirited, intrepid and fearless."
