Remains Identified As Missing Virginia Teen

Virginia officials confirmed that the human remains found in Southampton County on Thursday are those of Anjelica 'AJ' Hadsell, a Norfolk teen who disappeared in March.

"Chief of Police Michael Goldsmith and the dedicated members of the Norfolk Police Department express their deepest sympathies to the Hadsell family and thank the many federal, state, and local agencies that have assisted throughout the course of this investigation," Norfolk police said in a statement obtained by ABC News.

The investigation into the teen's death is ongoing, police said.

Officers found the remains near a shed in the backyard of a home on Smiths Ferry Road in Southampton County. Cops visited the home after receiving a tip.

No arrests have been made in the girl's death, and medical examiners have not determined a cause of death.

Last month, Hadsell's father was arrested after he broke into the house of someone who he thinks kidnapped his 18-year-old daughter. In a jailhouse interview, Wesley Hadsell told WAVY that he found his daughter's jacket inside the house. Police wouldn't comment on his claim.
