Wrong Things Ann Coulter Keeps Saying

Ann Coulter loves to hate on Hispanics. Since the reelecton of Barack Obama in November, the conservative pundit has lashed out at Latinos in a series of articles, television appearances and tweets, painting the Hispanic community as lazy, dumb, and and government-dependent.

Coulter's screeds routinely contain errors of fact and unattributed or poorly sourced statistics to back her dubious claims. Her antics help fuel her audience of angry conservatives who thrive on 24-hour, over-the-top outrage.

But they aren’t doing much to boost the GOP’s credibility with Latino voters.

When the Republican National Committee’s former Hispanic outreach director for the state of Florida, Pablo Pantoja, announced that he’d switched parties, he cited anti-Latino commentary by people like Coulter as part of the reason.

The complete disregard of those who are in disadvantage is also palpable. We are not looking at an isolated incident of rhetoric or research. Others subscribe to motivating people to action by stating, “In California, a majority of all Hispanic births are illegitimate. That’s a lot of Democratic voters coming.” The discourse that moves the Republican Party is filled with this anti-immigrant movement and overall radicalization that is far removed from reality.

Coulter’s certainly not alone in spouting off the anti-Latino rhetoric that alienates people like Pantoja. Fox commentator Bill O’Reilly lamented the fall of the “white establishment” on election night last year, saying Obama would be reelected by Latinos and other people of color of what “things” and “stuff.” The Heritage Foundation let go of researcher Jason Richwine last week after the Washington Post reported that he argued in his Harvard PhD dissertation that Hispanics are genetically predisposed to having lower IQs.

But it’s worth reviewing Coulter’s recent writings because she has a huge audience and routinely makes incorrect statements that are easily disproven.
