Anna Bjorn, Former Miss Iceland & Hollywood Actress, To Receive $2 Million For Turning Whitey Bulger In

Former Beauty Queen To Receive $2 Million For Turning Whitey In

It turns out the former Boston fugitive Whitey Bulger was right to keep girlfriend Catherine Greig on a short leash; it was her friendship with a former beauty queen that led to both of their captures in June of this year.

The Boston Globe reports that Greig, then known as Carol Gasko, bonded with Santa Monica neighbor Anna Bjorn over the care of an abandoned cat. But Bjorn didn't know about Gasko's criminal past until she was back in her native Reykjavik, Iceland and she saw a CNN segment featuring the FBI's now famous PSA. The wanted ads focused on Catherine Greig to get to her companion, grizzled Boston mobster Whitey Bulger.

Bjorn called authorities immediately, and the criminal pair were caught and arrested without incident on June 23, 2011.

According to the Boston Globe, Bjorn, who is a graphic designer and yoga instructor, ended up receiving $2 million of the FBI's $2.1 million reward for the information that led to the arrest of Boston's most wanted criminal.

Bjorn, better known in her native Iceland as Anna Bjornsdottir, represented Iceland in the 1974 Miss Universe contest. While she didn't place, she did win the prize for "Miss Congeniality" -- an award that seems especially fitting in light of how she came to know Catherine Greig.

Bjorn moved to California in 1977 with rock musician Jakob Magnusson, who would become her first husband. This People article from 1980 describes them as a lopsided couple because Bjorn's success as a model and commercial actress overshadowed Magnusson's floundering music career.

They were active among the Hollywood party circuit as well as the Southern California chapter of the Icelandic American Association. People describes their home as a "pink three-bedroom house... filled with tasteful Art Deco objects."

Bjorn's IMDB profile lists her acting jobs: 'More American Graffiti,' 'Diff'rent Strokes' and 'Remington Steele' are just a few the films and television shows she was featured in, but she may have been more well-recognized for her commercial spots in commercials for Noxema face wash and Vidal Sassoon shampoo.
