Anna Nicole Smith's Death Anniversary: Remembering Her Though Daughter Dannielynn Birkhead (PHOTOS)

February 8 marks the sixth anniversary of actress and model Anna Nicole Smith's untimely death at age 39.

Smith shot to notoriety after becoming a Playboy Playmate and Guess model, but it was her 1994 marriage to 89-year-old oil tycoon J. Howard Marshall when she was just 26 years old that made her a tabloid target and eventually a household name. When Marshall died 14 months after the two had married, Smith would spend the duration of her life in a court battle over Marshall's inheritance, which was eventually resolved in 2010 -- not that Smith would live to see the outcome.

The last years of the buxom blonde's life were full of tragedy. Three days after giving birth to her daughter Dannielynn, her 20-year-old son Daniel died allegedly from a prescription overdose. The distraught model and reality TV star became romantically involved with her longtime friend and lawyer Howard K. Stern just five months before she was found dead in a Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Florida from a lethal "combined drug intoxication."

After her death, photographer Larry Birkhead challenged the paternity of Smith's daughter and a DNA test confirmed he was Dannielynn's biological father. Since being awarded custody, Birkhead has raised Dannielynn as a single father, and the 6-year-old is currently following in her mother's more reputable footsteps as the the new face of Guess Kids.

Today, on the sixth anniversary of Smith's death, let's remember the star and her legacy that lives on through her daughter.
