Incredible Photos Show The Devastation Of Homs

New York Times Beirut bureau chief Anne Barnard shared a series of powerful images from Homs on her Twitter account this week while reporting from the devastated Syrian city.

Homs has been the scene of protracted fighting between government and rebel forces in the Syrian conflict, leaving much of the old city in ruin after a brutal bombing campaign by Assad's forces. Following a ceasefire in May, the city is now in a period of relative calm, as returning residents begin the daunting task of salvaging belongings and rebuilding their shattered lives.
