A CNN segment turned tense Tuesday night when the Anne Frank Center for Mutual Respect’s executive director verbally sparred with Kayleigh McEnany, the network’s in-house surrogate for President Donald Trump.
Earlier in the day, the center’s Steven Goldstein had blasted Trump’s statement against anti-Semitism as “too little, too late” and said the anti-Jewish sentiment from the administration is “the worst we have ever seen.”
“So you think the president does not like Jews and is prejudiced against Jews?” McEnany asked.
“You bet,” Goldstein replied.
“Wow!” McEnany said. “Does he hate his daughter?”
The president’s eldest daughter, Ivanka Trump, converted to Judaism before marrying Jared Kushner, who is a senior White House adviser.
“Wow is right,” he replied. Then he added this smackdown:
“You know what, Kayleigh? I am tired of commentators like you from the right trotting out his daughter, trotting out his son-in-law, as talking point against the president’s anti-Semitism. They are Jewish, but that is not a talking point against anti-Semitism and that is a disgrace. Have you no ethics that you invoke people’s religion as a talking point? That itself is anti-Semitic.”
But McEnany continued to press him, asking if he believes the president hates his daughter ― and the conversation grew even more heated from there.
