Anne Hathaway: Oscar Host Won't Pull A Ricky Gervais

Anne Hathaway: I Won't Pull A Ricky Gervais

Some Oscar hosts make headlines by calling out Hollywood's heavyweights. Anne Hathaway won't be one of them.

The first time host, who will be joined on stage by James Franco, gave a long interview to The Hollywood Reporter about this coming Sunday's big show, talking her plans for live comedy and what the producers have in store. And insults aren't part of the plan.

While Ricky Gervais got laughs and heckles for his razor clawed Golden Globes hosting job, Hathaway said she won't be doing the same.

"I can guarantee that if you're looking for someone to call people out, we're not your hosts," Hathaway said. "I think that humor is really difficult to pull off, and I'm not particularly adept at it. I wouldn't feel comfortable doing it. Also, I don't mean to sound overly serious, but I am the youngest host in history and I have no business being cynical or calling anyone out. I certainly haven't earned the right to do that."

That being said, she's really not making too many of the big decisions, anyway.

"The show was pretty much laid out when we were asked," she revealed. "We were given a presentation. So we knew the concept behind the show and what the moving parts would be. We're not writing the jokes or the scenarios but we are collaborating with the writers to figure out what fits. It's so different doing live comedy, that's kind of the scariest thing about it."

Franco talks about how he feels like an outsider at the show, and asked former hosts such as Jon Stewart for advice, but he seems to be having fun with the job -- and isn't too nervous about messing up. Even if the producers won't let him sing Cher's "You Haven't Seen The Last Of Me" from "Burlesque".
