Another Great Week on the Road

Still thinking about the "Hootie" tour a lot, but I am right in the middle of what is called a "radio tour" for my new single "Don't Think I Don't Think About It."

Hey ya'll, another great week out on the road. Back home for the day and just got everyone to bed so thought I would write a little note.

Finally the Spurs are playing like the Spurs (it is early). Don't know if they can beat the Hornets in this series but they looked good in game 3 and right now in game 4 they look like San Antonio. It really is amazing how much more physical and defensively the teams play in the NBA playoffs. If you don't play hard defense you cannot win (see the Nuggets). If they shortened the season to 60 games and played that hard most nights I would be a huge fan. But now I just like it whole lot, except for the playoffs which I love.

Still thinking about the "Hootie" tour a lot, but I am right in the middle of what is called a "radio tour" for my new single "Don't Think I Don't Think About It," and this is one of the most fun, busiest, yet exhausting things I have ever done. I have been lucky enough to visit some of the coolest radio stations all over the country and hang with some folks who really love music and know how to make a guy feel welcome.

The best part of this has been meeting the listeners and getting to play some of the new songs for them. Their reactions and thoughts have been funny and educational, and I have loved meeting you all and look forward to more of that.

A radio tour is basically my man Glen Mitchell (who plays guitar and sings his ass off) and I riding around with a representative from Capitol Nashville (who are wonderfully easy people to hang with) to two or three radio stations a day, heck sometimes four. 90% of the time the stations aren't in the same city so that usually means a long drive or two or a plane flight. We have done everything from playing in a programmer's office to playing at a House of Blues last week, or playing station conference rooms for staff and listeners, or the lobby of a station. We went to a lot of radio stations back in the day but never for two months straight. Gotta tell you that Glen and I are getting tighter and tighter--both as a playing duo and as friends. Mr. Mitchell is from Essex, England, and I actually wrote the words "blimey" and "mate" in a text the other day and had to punch myself in the chest.

One of the coolest things is the rare nights we get to go have dinner with some folks. Talking and chillin' with people always seems to be the easiest way to get to know them and learn about music from them and just become friends. I can honestly say that I hope I get to hang a lot with everyone that I have met over these few weeks because I am having a blast working this single and you have all been great.

All I have to say about the NFL Draft is "HERE COMES THE TUNA" I'm predicting Miami Dolphin Super Bowl in three years unless we win it this year. And yes, all you haters I said we. I have cried and died and rejoiced, and left my heart out on that couch, or in that stadium or arena, because my sports teams have won or loss, and I am tired of hearing "we.......you never played the game". For those mostly former athlete TV announcers who get upset or becomes a smart ass when a fan says WE, if we weren't watching the games in the millions or coming to the games in the tens-of-thousands a week or buying the amazing amount of merchandise that we seem to not mind doing, the games would not be as important as they are. So when my man Big Al Perkins calls me to tell me that "we are going to crush y'all this Sunday", he has every right to use that sentence because the Patriots are probably gonna beat the Dolphins right now, the Red Sox are probably gonna beat the Reds and the Celtics are probably gonna beat the Mavericks (in 7). So leave us alone and let us dream. Because I know I NEED Gamecock Football and all my other beloved teams but I would like to think in some way they need us the fan too.

Can't stop listening to that Jypsi song I"I Don't Love You Like That". Man, great lyrics great band, can't believe the singer is only 16 with that voice and the sound of the album makes me play it over and over. We played with them at the Ryman last year but I wasn't doing so well, so I didn't get to see them that night but did later and let me just say their album (which I love) is worth the money. Yes we are managed by the same guy but I didn't know I was going to love this record this much.

Also that James Otto Guy. damn........he goooooood. Gotta go hit you next week.......Darius
