NEW YORK -- Did the unexpected arrival of Sydney Leathers outside mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner's midtown headquarters force the campaign to hastily reshuffle his afternoon schedule? According to Weiner's spokeswoman, absolutely not.

As New York City's voters headed to the polls Tuesday to vote in the Democratic mayoral primary, Weiner joined up with volunteers to canvass sleepy Floral Park, Queens, instead of phone banking in the Manhattan nerve center of his campaign.

Photos show Leathers, one of Weiner's former sexting partners, outside his office around noon, carrying a sign:

Weiner's spokeswoman denied reports that Leathers' appearance outside campaign headquarters had prompted the spontaneous schedule change.

"We have a lot of people in the field and they've been getting a great response," Barbara Morgan told HuffPost. "I don't even want to talk about [Leathers]."

Weiner told HuffPost he didn't know how he wound up in the remote Queens neighborhood.

"I'm running the show the way a cowboy rides a bucking bronco: I'm nominally on it," he said. "We have different canvassing teams. I'm not sure why they chose it. But I'm happy to be here."
