A vicious attack on a gay couple at a barbecue restaurant in New York City was caught on video.
The following graphic footage was shot by a patron at a Dallas BBQ restaurant in Manhattan on Tuesday night.
In the video, an unidentified attacker cracks a chair over 25-year-old Ethan York-Adams' head, according to DNA Info.
The victims said the attack was a hate crime.
"These guys attacked us specifically because they knew we weren't their type of people," Jonathan Snipes, 32, told DNA Info.
Snipes said the fight started after he accidentally knocked over a drink at another table. After that, Snipes said, two men at the table called he and York-Adams "f-----s"
"I don't let anyone talk to me like that," Snipes said. "I went over there and asked, 'What did you say about us?"
After that, the fight became physical.
Snipes suffered a loose tooth and snapped cartilage in his ear after he was beaten by one of the men. Both men refused medical treatment at the scene.
After he got up off the ground, another attacker smashed the chair over York-Adams' head.
NYPD Sgt. Lee Jones told Mashable that the suspects fled after the attack. The man who used the chair to batter York-Adams is described by police as a 35-year-old, 6-foot, 4-inch black male.
There was no description available of the other assailant. Both suspects are still at large.
City Councilman Corey Johnson said the incident constituted “anti-LGBT hate violence," according to CBS New York. “The fact that this attack took place in the neighborhood of Chelsea, a place known around the world for its acceptance of all people, is particularly outrageous,” Johnson said. “There must be zero tolerance of hate crimes, the most insidious of crimes as they target entire communities of people.”
