It's going to take some time to dismantle all the regulations that arose from 17 years of living with the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), but about a month after the Supreme Court struck down the federal marriage equality ban, the anti-gay laws are swiftly crumbling.
The loudest death knell so far: a decision by House Republicans to stop their legal defense of laws such as those preventing gay spouses from receiving veterans' benefits. It's a huge step forward for federal equality.
Meanwhile, progress continues in the states and internationally. Polling continues to show an upward trend in public support, and LGBT couples in England and Wales will finally gain the freedom to marry in about a year.
