Secretly Taped Job Interview May Offer Disturbing Reason Why Man Didn't Get Job

One man got a job offer. The other didn't.

Two men apply for the same job. The first man has little work experience and no trucking license -- even though the role requires driving. The other man has three years' experience in a warehouse, has driven a truck and enjoys learning about cars. One man got a job offer, the other didn't, and sexual orientation might have had something to do with it.

Swedish YouTube duo Konrad and Olle of STHLM Panda, a group that films candid videos that it describes as "social experiments and pranks," embarked on their latest project after hearing from a follower who said he'd been fired from his job at a transport company after his boss found out he was gay. Konrad and Olle both applied for a position at the company, and both were selected for interviews. They secretly filmed the meetings and uploaded the video to YouTube this week.

Konrad presented himself as a man with no related experience and minimal interest in the work. Olle presented himself as a man with a strong background and enthusiasm for the gig, and the interviewer seemed eager for him to start. But when Olle said he'd like a salary comparable with his current pay because he just purchased an apartment with his boyfriend, the interviewer's mood changed.

"Well, there's a lot of people who applied for this job. You should know that," he said, before showing Olle the door and refusing to shake his hand.

Konrad was ultimately offered the job, and was told that just "two to three" people were being considered. He declined the offer.

In an email sent to The Huffington Post, Konrad stated, "We knew the manager would be a bit off, but we didn't foresee that he would be that obvious and take such a turn by ending the interview nor shake Olles hand. We're hoping to spread awareness and open peoples eyes when it comes to discrimination. You should be accepted for who you are."
