The Los Angeles County coroner's office has officially ruled Anton Yelchin's death an accident.

The "Star Trek" actor died of accidental "blunt traumatic asphyxia," assistant chief coroner Ed Winter told People magazine on Tuesday.

Yelchin was killed Sunday morning after he was pinned between his car and a brick mailbox at his Studio City home in Los Angeles. According to the LAPD, the 27-year-old's car rolled backward down the steep driveway.

On Monday, Fiat Chrysler announced it would investigate the accident that killed Yelchin, which involved his 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The company recalled the same car model in April after the vehicle was investigated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for its gearshift design, which had led to numerous rollaway accidents.
