Anonymous sources are fueling online rumors that the internet conglomerate is interested in buying Mashable, a popular blog covering social media and technology.

Robert Scoble posted an update on Twitter regarding AOL's rumored acquisition of Mashable:

My sources confirm that Mashable is being sold to AOL. Trying to get more details now

He later added additional detail on the rumor, Tweeting:

I am having a tough time getting any other news about Mashable. Tried calling Pete Cashmore but his phone goes into voicemail.

cited sources both inside and outside of AOL in reporting that AOL has an interest in buying Mashable.

Pete Cashmore, the 24-year-old founder of Mashable, told Valleywag, "We don't comment on speculation."

Cashmore was among the Huffington Post's "Ultimate Game Changers in Technology" in 2009.
