At Tuesday's "Let's Talk iPhone" keynote event, Apple announced Cards, a new app that allows iPhone and iPad users to create custom greeting cards that Apple will print out and mail via the United States Postal Service.
Scott Forstall, Apple's Senior Vice President for iOS, made the announcement.
According to Engadget's live blog of the event, the cards will cost $2.99 to be sent within the United States and $4.99 to be sent elsewhere.
Gdgt.com reports that Forstall said the cards will be printed on "high-quality 100% cotton paper." The card's creator will receive a push notification when the card is delivered, but only to locations in the US.
Postagram, which is available for both the iPhone and Android handsets, allows users to send postcards with photos from Facebook, Instagram and their phones.
But Ina Fried at AllThingsD notes that Cards is for creating letterpress greeting cards, similar to those you'd find at Hallmark, not just postcards.
According to Tuaw.com, Cards will be available on October 12.
