I know I sure did, for the first 18 months in my coaching biz, and it cost me dearly. It cost me clients that I couldn’t convert because I didn’t know how to truly convey my value, it cost me money invested in coaching and strategies that couldn’t possibly work, because I hadn’t nailed my niche, and it cost me my wellbeing as I burnt myself out, running around like the proverbial headless chicken and implementing dozens of tactics that would never work, because I didn’t know who I was speaking to, on a heart and soul level. You see, not knowing who my perfect client was, and what I could do for her, made it impossible for me to speak to her powerfully enough to get her to jump on the phone with me. And sure, I’m a certified coach, so I could help anyone with anything. But the only people who were looking for generalist coaches, were people who wanted a couple of $50 sessions to help make a decision or decide a way forward, before hiring a specialist coach to help them do the real work. And eventually, it became clear to me that if I really wanted to make a big difference, for my clients and for myself, then I needed to be a specialist coach too. And, that realisation led me to finally claim my expertise, name my perfect client, and speak to her so powerfully that she couldn’t help but stop and pay attention, is what took me from scraping by each month, to powerfully booking dozens of calls straight from my Facebook posts, and creating more than $54k in coaching revenue, directly from Facebook groups, in the last 6 months alone. And, in the end, it all came down to niching. Niching gave me the clarity to know what to write about that would get my perfect clients to take action and jump on the phone with me. Niching gave me the impetus to write every day (since I no longer needed to struggle with what to write about) leading to me mastering the skill of compelling, action provoking messaging. And, niching gave me the confidence to showcase my value and convert more than 80% of my discovery calls into high-paying clients. Jo xx
