Arianna's Tips For Handling That 'Obnoxious Roommate' In Her Head

The kid who sleeps parallel to you might be a nuisance, but Arianna Huffington identified an even more annoying presence that puts that kid to shame: the persistently negative voice in her head (formally referred to as the "obnoxious roommate").

"She used to live with me all the time and she used to constantly judge me," Huffington told HuffPost Live's Caroline Modarressy Tehrani of the obnoxious roommate. "I had to really educate her and educate myself to realize that I am not that voice -- I am not that negative fantasy or these doubts."

Huffington recalled how her obnoxious roommate used to feed on her insecurities about her Greek accent while she was in college.

"I had just started debating at Cambridge," she recounted, "And just remember, I have this accent -- you may have noticed -- which was even stronger then, and in England there is such snobbery about accents, and I was completely ridiculed for my accent.

"I remember a debate where I felt so humiliated because of the comments made and 'that voice' could not stop for days," she recalled.

Today, Huffington turns to her inner-voice for feedback rather than self-doubt. To find out more, make sure to pick up her latest book, "Thrive: The Third Metric to Redefining Success and Creating a Life of Well-Being, Wisdom, and Wonder."
