Arriana Huffington was honored at this years Parsons Benefit on May 23rd, a collaboration between The Parsons School of Design and The College of Performing Arts to raise funds for scholarships to The New School for students who would otherwise be unable to attend the university. She was recognized for her many contributions to the global community.

One contribution was made with her bestselling book “Thrive”. The uber successful Arianna wrote about our need to redefine success through well-being, wisdom, wonder, and giving rather than grinding and sacrificing our life’s overall wellness. In her newest book “Sleep Revolution” she argues sleep is the gateway to a more fulfilling way of living.

The 8 App got an exclusive interview with the Parsons Honoree, gaining insight on her sleep revolution, global citizenship, and the positive and negative influences of technology on our individual lives and the interconnectedness of our global community. Huffington is someone who has used technology to share information with the world through “The Huffington Post” but who also contends that we need to unplug in order to renew ourselves and enhance creativity. When asked if technology has enabled our positive growth or stunted it, she explained:

“…nearly 3 billion people will join the internet community by 2020. Voices that once would have gone unheard have a chance to join the conversation, and maybe even change the world. At the same time, one of the things that makes it harder to connect with our wisdom is our increasing dependence on technology.”
