When Arianna said that "women need to sleep their way to the top", in a discussion on today's 'Morning Joe', she drew gasps from host and author Mika Brzezinski.
Of course, when Arianna said sleep, she meant it literally. She said: "Women need to re-define success. We need to stop thinking that success is driving yourself into the ground, working around the clock, never having time for yourself never having any balance in your life and having a heart attack before you are fifty."
The exchange was part of a discussion about stereotypes of strong women, and how to get around them, and was prompted by the release of Brzezinski's book 'Knowing Your Value' in which she takes an in-depth look at how women today achieve their deserved recognition and financial worth.
The panel then take a quote from Arianna: "Too often in our culture, strong women get stereotyped as ball-busters, which is insulting as it is ludicrous," as a jumping-off point for a discussion on the pitfalls of women trying to imitate male behaviors in the workplace in order to get what they want.
