For decades, the century-old Arizona Capitol has served as the home of a state museum that attracts mostly school classes and tour groups. But now there's renewed talk of putting the copper-domed building back in the business of hosting at least part of working state government. Arizona State Treasurer and former Cold Stone Creamery CEO Doug Ducey (R) defeated former Arizona Board of Regents Fred Duval (D) Tuesday in the state's gubernatorial contest.

Ducey, who moved on from the crowded August primary, received backing from a variety of polarizing political figures, including former vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

Gov. Jan Brewer (R) decided to retire instead of challenging the state's term limit law.
