With the announcement that "Arrested Development" is coming back with all new episodes on web streaming service Netflix, it was only appropriate that the show's star and producer would take to the internet to celebrate the revival.
"Netflix is gassing up the staircar! I don't think I've ever been happier to wear a pair of khakis," leading man Jason Bateman tweeted Friday night, referring to a vehicle his character, Michael Bluth, drove on the show, as well as the business casual slacks that he wore throughout the series.
Ron Howard, the series' producer and narrator, tweeted, "Gotta warm up my throat and start practicing.... 'it's Arrested.... Development' Good news," and followed up by thanking the series' hardcore fan base, writing, "Many thanks to you ever-so-vocal Arrested Development supporters Wouldn't have gotten here without you."
In early October, the cast broke the news that they would be bringing the show back for ten new episodes and a movie, though it was unclear where those episodes would air. Along with Bateman, the show starred David Cross, Will Arnett, Michael Cera, Portia De Rossi, Tony Hale, Alia Shawkat and Jessica Walter as members of an eccentric family under federal investigation for financial crimes perpetrated by its patriarch, played by Jeffrey Tambor.
A critical darling that amassed a wildly devoted following, the series was nonetheless canceled after three seasons and six Emmy Awards. Smart and self-aware, the show would often joke about its on-the-fence status with pleas for renewal within actual episodes. Better late than never, those calls were finally answered.
