Some stars rule Hollywood for a decade or so, only to see their legends fade into obscurity. For example, how many contemporary theatergoers are familiar with silent film vamp Theda Bara or 1930s silver screen goddess Myrna Loy, once dubbed "The Queen of Hollywood?"

Other stars seem to shimmer on the horizon forever, and Audrey Hepburn is one of them. Although she passed away over fifteen years ago, Hepburn still commands headlines and captures the public imagination today. Reverence for her style runs deep, as evidenced by the recent, nearly $96,000 auction sale of a black cocktail dress she donned in 1966 film How to Steal a Million.

In another homage to Hepburn's global allure, Chronicle Books has just released Audrey Hepburn: International Cover Girl by Scott Brizel, which showcases over 600 magazine covers featuring the star throughout her lifetime. Today we usually visualize Hepburn in her iconic Holly Golightly garb, but International Cover Girl showcases many different, often refreshingly candid shots of the gamine.

Below are ten of the book's more rare and surprising cover images of this beloved actress. Which is your favorite?

Special thanks to April Whitney.
