Nineteen-year-old Austin Harrouff has been dubbed the “face eating” frat boy by some media, after he allegedly stabbed and killed 59-year-old John Stevens and his wife, Michelle Mischon, and violently bit the face and abdomen of his victims before stabbing a neighbor who was trying to save the couple’s lives.
However his father, Dr. Wade Harrouff, says his son is not a monster.
“He’s always been the kindest, caring kid I’ve ever seen. He always wanted to help people,” Dr. Harrouff tells Dr. Phil in an exclusive sit-down interview airing on Dr. Phil on Wednesday.

Police claim Harrouff walked 2.8 miles to the home of Stevens and his wife and attacked the couple while they sat in their garage watching TV. It allegedly took a police dog and four deputies to pry the teen, who was reportedly growling like an animal, off the victims. Police initially suspected that the synthetic street drug Flakka may have sparked the attack, since the drug is known to give users superhuman strength and has been linked to cases of violence and cannibalism in the past.
Dr. Harrouff says he learned of the brutal attack when he received a call from police at 2 a.m.
“Police said, ‘We found Austin.’ I was relieved,” Dr. Harrouff tells Dr. Phil. He says they informed him his son was in the ICU in the hospital. “The police said, ‘He’s killed two people and eaten them. And the blood that you see is not his own.’”

Dr. Harrouff says he didn’t believe that his son was capable of this type of behavior, as the teen had always been a fun-loving, happy person. “He cared a lot about people, and he must have had some psychological break for him to ever do this horrendous act. But he was a good person, an extremely nice, gentle person. He wouldn’t hurt a flea.”
