Austin Voters Deal Huge Setback To Uber, Lyft

Voters in Austin, Texas, rejected Proposition 1, a major defeat for ridesharing companies.

The failure of the proposition Saturday means the city of Austin’s plan to require fingerprinting for rideshare drivers’ background checks will go ahead.

In response, Uber and Lyft have threatened to stop operating in the city.

Note: The Huffington Post's Editor-in-Chief Arianna Huffington is a member of Uber's board of directors, and has recused herself from any involvement in the site's coverage of the company.
