Ava DuVernay On The 'Epic' Star-Studded Dance Battle At Obama's Party

Ain't no party like a presidential party.

President Barack Obama’s super exclusive birthday celebration was the party of a lifetime, according to Ava DuVernay.

Though phones were banned from the prestigious party at the White House in August (meaning no photo/video recap on The Shade Room the following morning), the “Queen Sugar” director spilled the tea about an “epic” dance battle that broke out at the shindig to “Late Show” host Stephen Colbert.

“Everyone who is everyone is at this party,” DuVernay said to Colbert, who she met for the first time at the function. “At some point, a little dance battle starts between Usher and Janelle Monáe.”

The directer remembers thinking to herself, “It can’t get better than this.” Then, the dance gods bring the president and first lady in for a good two-step.

The battle grew into what we can only picture as an upscale-version of the dance flick, “You Got Served” when DuVernay revealed that Colbert jumped in the middle of the circle and gets down. Ellen DeGeneres, Paul McCartney and Chance the Rapper all followed suit and joined in on the fun.

Can you imagine?!

The Obamas may have thrown the most lit party the White House has ever seen, but we’re still mad our invitations got lost in the mail.
