Axel Hotel In New York? "Gay Hotel" Reportedly Coming To Hell's Kitchen

While New Jersey may be voting on gay marriage, New York is building "gay hotels."

According to On Top magazine, Spanish hotel chain Axel Hotel will be opening a new outpost in Hell's Kitchen. Billed as "heterofriendly," the chain already operates five-star hotels in Barcelona, Berlin and Buenos Aires.

Guests will be given the choice between the droll "Do Not Disturb" sign and the more exciting "Please Disturb" sign.

The hotel's founder, Juan Julia told Passport Magazine that, "Its main distinction is the spectacular ambiance and the perception of the guests that they are living a unique experience in a framework of respect where no one is judging anyone."

Historically known for its immigrants and tenements, Hell's Kitchen has recently seen growth in its gay population. The neighborhood has also seen a buildup of hip bars and restaurants.

The hotel is slated to open in 2011.
