It's always refreshing to see a celebrity use their platform to bring attention to something worthwhile -- like a discussion about representation on television -- instead of peddling some BS tooth-whitening product or juice cleanse for their own benefit.
Aziz Ansari has been doing just that, breaking down stereotypes in his new Netflix show "Master of None" and incorporating politicized topics like police brutality and race relations into his stand-up set.
The "Parks and Recreation" star visited "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" to promote his new series, and the two immediately bonded over their shared South Carolinian upbringing.
"Stephen’s the first late-night host from South Carolina," Ansari remarked. "And the bajillionth white guy."
Colbert responded to the crack by asking if having the Modern Romance author on the show “counts” for diversity. Ansari then fired back, “This is like an all-time high for CBS.”
Cue the a collective meltdown at the CBS publicity office.
Ansari's father, who also stars in "Master of None," joined his son on the show later on in the evening. Before the two took the stage, Ansari posted this sweet letter to his dad on Tumblr, urging readers to never take their parents for granted.
"Not to beat a dead horse here and sorry if this is cheesy or too sentimental, but if your parents are good to you too, just go do something nice for them," he wrote. "I bet they care and love you more than you realize."
Everyone go give mom and dad a call.
