Think Beyoncé Should Have The Right To Vote? Then You're A Feminist, Says Aziz Ansari

During his Oct. 6 appearance on the "Late Show," comedian Aziz Ansari gave members of David Letterman's audience a hilariously simple litmus test to help determine whether or not they should identify as feminists.

"You're feminist if you go to a Jay Z and Beyoncé concert and you're not, hmm, I feel like Beyoncé should get 23 percent less than Jay Z," Ansari said, to chuckles from the audience. "Also, I don't think Beyoncé should have the right to vote, and why is Beyoncé singing and dancing? Shouldn't she make Jay a steak?"

He explains the reason so many men and women don't choose to identify as feminists is the product of a cultural misunderstanding. The term, Ansari clarifies, really just describes people who believe men and women should have equal rights.

If you believe in equality, the "Parks and Rec" star says, you should call yourself a feminist, if only to uphold the integrity of the English language.

"Because that is how words work," he said.
