The Honest Company is recalling certain lots of baby wipes that could contain what is likely a harmless mold, according to a company recall notice issued last week.
The recall includes multiple wipes configurations sold in the U.S. and Canada, as well as wipes in Honest’s diaper cakes and in some gift sets. While the mold likely isn’t harmful, “the aesthetics are unacceptable,” co-founder Christopher Gavigan said in a video statement.
According to the Food and Drug Administration, mold can appear on wipes if they’re stored in temperatures that are too hot or cold, because “the preservatives that protect against bacteria and mold may break down and not be able to do their job.” Honest didn’t cite a reason for its mold issue, but Gavigan said the company has begun ramped-up cleaning, sampling, inspections and testing procedures at its manufacturing sites since investigating the moldy wipes.
People who bought the wipes are advised to return them to the place of purchase. The recall includes certain 10-, 72-, 288- and 576-count packs of wipes; check wipes.honest.com/limitedvoluntaryrecall for exact lot codes to know if you have an affected package.
